Elon Musk is probably the most inspirational and innovative public figure of the 21st Century and would have given Steve Jobs an inferiority Complex. He is responsible for transforming many things such as electric and driverless cars, online payment systems, high-speed public transport, and now on the quest to Colonize Mars!!!
1. Have a powerful vision
The most successful leaders usually have a powerful vision. They share it with their teams and chart a sure path on how they are going to achieve it. Moreover, they can exert influence so that other people can see their point of view. Just like Elon Musk, successful leaders have a revolutionary vision. Not only do their ideas have a positive effect, they completely change the way the industry works. He co-founded PayPal and transformed the industry of money transfer across the world. Therefore, Elon teaches us the lesson of having a vision that is transformational and powerful.
2. You must execute your ideas well
The success of an idea depends on how well it is executed. One that receives no action remains simply as an idea while one that is executed effectively can grow into a superb business. Elon Musk indicates that you need to have an innovative team to execute your ideas. With their participation, you can come up with solid business models. This will lead to healthy financial returns and eventually successful execution of your vision. Therefore, your idea is only as good as how you execute it.
3. Good ideas can spring from anyone, anywhere
One of the interesting things that Elon Musk has done is to make his ideas open-source. He has proposed them to the public and asked for factual improvement whenever and wherever possible. By doing this, he teaches us that great leaders take advantage of existing communication infrastructures to allow larger groups of people to take part in solving a problem. Elon understands that he may be smart, but the collective effort of a group of people can give results that he could not have achieved on his own. This is known as teamwork.
4. Reading Can Make You Smart, Very Smart
When someone asked Elon Musk “You don’t have a degree related to Aeronautics and still You founded SpaceX, the most successful private Rocket Company. How did you do all this?” He Said, “I used to read a lot.”
Musk has been a Voracious reader, since childhood. He believes everything is simple and can be self-taught. Apparently, he went to Russia a few times for help with the design of the rockets for SpaceX. The Russian scientists didn’t take him seriously and rejected his wild ideas. Frustrated, he learned how to design a rocket on his flight back home. Although Musk is a genius, we all can learn so much by cultivating the habit of reading.
5. Work “super hard”
Elon is a hardcore Workaholic: he has been working 100 hours a week for a lot many years. According to him, if other people are putting in 40 hours in a week, and you’re putting in 100, you will achieve in four months, what it takes them a year to achieve. That’s the kind of work ethic an entrepreneur needs to have.
He Works Harder than humanly possible but even if you are an average guy working 150% more than others, it still gives you the edge.
6.Money Shouldn’t Be Your Main Goal
Money can be a motivator, especially when you don’t have enough of it. But it’s usually not a strong enough or sustainable motivator to achieve long-term success. Hence, find a better one.
As Elon Musk said, “Going from PayPal, I thought: ‘Well, what are some of the other problems that are likely to most affect the future of humanity?’” Not from the perspective of, ‘What’s the best way to make money?”
We must Have a higher goal in life than making money. Whenever you decide to start something new, focus on the difference that your idea can make to humanity. Money is a by-product and will come to you if you or your product can solve and help people with problems.
7.Never Fear Failure
The main reason why we don’t get what we desire is that we are afraid of failing. We don’t apply for our dream jobs because we are afraid we’ll fail. We also don’t approach the person we like because we are afraid of rejection.
Elon Musk is no stranger to failure. He had not one, but two rocket launches fail miserably, costing upwards of $60-million. However, he created a backup plan. He vowed that if SpaceX, couldn’t get the first rocket to launch by the time they spent $100 million successfully, they’d close down the company. So, they had one last attempt to make it work.
Elon has had close shaves with disaster and economic failure several times with Tesla as well and many other companies he has invested in. Fear is normal and failure is limited, having the persistence and perseverance to continue despite failing is what makes you stand out from the crowd.
8. If you want to win BIG then be prepared for a lot of pain
This is the key to Elon’s success. People close to him say that they have never met someone as resilient as Musk. He doesn’t care about setbacks and can endure whatever pain is needed to overcome all the obstacles in his way. In 2008, his personal life was a mess, his companies were facing bankruptcy but despite all this, he bounced back brilliantly to emerge as the Elon Musk we know today.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going, Elon is one of those. He has the splendid ability to work under extreme pressure. He also says his toughness might have come from his tough childhood when he was bullied and beaten up by other school kids
9. Follow your Passions
Elon Musk is passionate about a lot of things, and he has shamelessly followed those interests. He’s used his passion for technology to explore fields like space travel, fast internet, sustainable solar energy, and transportation. And with each of Elon’s increasing interests and skills, his empire has grown tremendously.
Our passion teaches us new skills, new ways to understand and interact with the world. And as Elon Musk’s success shows, this can be of great benefit both to ourselves as well as to the planet’s future.
What is your purpose? What hobbies have you left behind because you’re too busy? You never know when something might bring results, so make room in your life for the things you enjoy. Actively following your interests like this will make you a far more interesting and well-rounded person.
