I was 12 years old and in the seventh grade when I saw Titanic for the first time. I, a simple man, experienced the same ecstasy and thrill as the characters in Titanic had.
There are many love stories that we have grown up hearing, but the bond between Jack and Rose is a noteworthy one. The Titanic is one of the most iconic films ever made and is not just because of its historical significance. They were the ones who showed us what real love is. While we are all for keeping up with the latest fashions and improving ourselves, when it comes to romantic examples, the only ones that come to mind are Jack and Rose.
The film Titanic was released in 1997 and it is still remembered by people all over the world. It has been remade twice, once in 3D, which was released in 2012, and again in 2017 for TV. The film has grossed a whopping $2.18 billion worldwide and is still considered to be one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
The story starts with Jack Dawson who falls for Rose DeWitt Bukater on board the Titanic on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean from England to America in 1912.
Fairy tales are one of the most popular forms of storytelling in the world. They create for us a picture of what we believe true love should look like. It’s something magical and special that we all want to find.
The fairy tale is a genre that goes back centuries, but there are some elements that have remained consistent over time. The hero or heroine is usually a young woman who is either orphaned or has been abandoned by her parents, and she’s forced to live with an evil stepmother and stepsisters. One day, she meets a handsome prince who falls in love with her at first sight and whiskers her away from her life of servitude to live happily ever after with him in his castle.
In order to better understand the role of fairy tales in today’s society, we should look at how they were used as an escape mechanism for people living under oppressive regimes in the past:
The idealized depictions of romantic love in fairy tales help shape our own ideals about the subject. It’s a rare and wonderful thing that we believe exists in the real world. So, we think that genuine love, when we find it, should be flawless and that it last forever. True love may come back, as some have said, but it also never leaves you the first time. A partnership can’t be made up entirely of rose petals. In the same way that a rose wouldn’t be a rose without its thorns, the best and most perfect relationships don’t end because one partner betrays the other or because one partner abandons the other. Even if they have a fight, they won’t hurt each other.
Each and every living thing requires a certain minimum level of love and care. It’s impossible for a person to be as tough as they seem on the outside without having someone special in their life who means the world to them. A life devoid of love is like a pitcher full of dust. We all long for love because it is an experience worth having. Instinctively, we look for love from the moment we are born. True love is found when two people give their all to each other out of pure affection; when feelings and promises take precedence over everything else.
The love which existed between Jack and Rose who were aware of the fact that their love would never receive any recognition is a perfect example of unrequited love.
Holding on is a vital part of any love story. Until you learn to cling to one another, your love will not last. There is a right time for everything, and the capacity to “hang on” is the most crucial aspect of your relationship. At those moments when you feel like you can’t go on, remember that you have to be patient and persevere. It is well worth the effort and the time it takes to create something truly beautiful.
Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” has lyrics that echo this sentiment, and they can be found in the closing credits:
Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you, go onNear, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more, you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and onLove can touch us one time and last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone
Love was when I loved you, one true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go onNear, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more, you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and onYou’re here, there’s nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
So, Jack continues his journey with her. His soul became a part of hers. His death was purely material, not spiritual. These song lyrics represent a more profound truth about who we are as people. And maybe even of what it is to love someone deeply.
My undying love for them is unwavering. Twenty-five years later, I am still smitten by their love.
I wish to rewatch this Film in Theatre once.
